Customers and Projects Include:
- International ISP: Stood up nautobot instance and automated configuration of 50+ routers; trained network engineering staff on python/nornir coding so they could manage the system themselves.
- Metro Fiber ISP: Migrated MPLS/OLT fiber hub from one building to another. Revamped netbox/Salesforce provisioning pipeline to incorporate new ONT products, coordinated with JTAC on MPLS troubleshooting, developed MPLS testbed and managed rearchitecture plans.
- A Regional ISP: Assisted with ARIN IRR submissions and AS requests, as well as BGP configuration, peer turnups, and troubleshooting as needed.
- A Coast-to-Coast Backbone: Audited IP configuration of core OSRs in 17 POPs. Modified the Engineering department's configuration guides to include the de-facto standards in place as well as the recommended changes. Created change documents, submitted to Operations for implementation, and tracked their progress.
- A Local ISP/Managed Hosting Provider: Brought up new transit providers and provided BGP assistance as needed, and planned and led a datacenter migration. Planned and led the upgrade of several customers to MetroEthernet service; included upgrading network infrastructure and creating standardized BGP configs for those who would maintain their older connections as backup. Audited and documented core network architecture and router configuration, recommended numerous improvements.
- A Local Web Hosting Provider: Applied to ARIN for new address space; standardized rwhois data and DNS records to meet ARIN's requirements. Assisted with network design and hardware requirements for routers needing to handle several BGP feeds.
- A Regional Transit Provider: Adapted the IP address allocation method to rwhois format in preparation for ARIN IP space application.

Network Engineer
- Responsible for designing, maintaining and supporting a production web-hosting and content delivery network as well as the corporate IT network on a 24x7 on-call basis.
- Migrated legacy DI customers from end-of-life San Jose data center to local CW Exodus data centers. Included coordinating the migration of all host monitoring from the legacy DI system to the CW standard SiteLite system.
- Integrated legacy DI AS 6553 data centers into AS 3561. Managed preliminary projects, generated new configurations and migrated routers during scheduled maintenance windows.
- Designed and implemented Conditional Route Advertisement configuration for BGP peers in several countries. This included creating a new route advertisement scheme involving BGP communities, and standardizing route-maps on all core and border routers.

Senior Network Consultant (10/99 - 2/00)
Responsible for leading major network audit, network design and network engineering projects from start to finish. Worked with Lucent customers to evaluate their needs, identify potential problems, and provide solutions. Documented recommendations and presented to customer engineering staff and executives.
- Network Audits performed using WANDL NPAT modeling software to simulate failure scenarios and identify failure points in the customer's network; also used software developed in-house to analyze the customer's configuration and identify potential problems.
- Created Network Designs using WANDL NPAT modeling software to generate optimal trunk and switch topology given a customer's planned traffic demand and reliability requirements.
- Network Engineering projects included:
- Designing ATM backbone topology for a major residential DSL provider to work around the per-card VC limitation of the CBX-500 and GX-550 switches.
- Writing Frame Relay and ATM Engineering Guidelines for a large carrier network; including detailed testing and simulation to verify SLA conformance.
- Detailed testing and tuning of the CBX-500 ATM Flow Control Processor (FCP) parameters for a major ISP, including stress-testing of the FCP to determine configuration limits.

Data Internetworking Planner
As principal backbone design engineer, responsible for designing and managing the production ATM and Frame Relay backbones.
- Evaluated several network modeling packages and selected WANDL's Network Planning and Analysis Tool (NPAT).
- Responsible for ongoing modeling of the current ATM and Frame Relay backbone to ensure trunking requirements are met, as well as to approve potential high-bandwidth sales and VC rate increases.
- Monitored OSPF inter-area traffic and modeled IP capacity needs across the ATM backbone.
- Directed the development of software that generates point-to-point input data based upon sales forecasts for each city.
- Engineered the introduction of Transparent LAN Service (TLS) over the ATM backbone, including creating the provisioning and equipment tracking process and testing to verify configuration settings.
- Evaluated emerging technologies such as VoIP and VTOA to determine feasibility in relation to the existing voice, SS7 and data networks. Attended ATM Forum VTOA Working Group meetings in February, 1998.
- Planned and implemented the installation of ATM switches and supporting equipment as part of the initial ATM rollout. Provisioned circuits and ensured all equipment information was populated in the Telecom Business Solution (TBS) provisioning server.
- Tested and performed troubleshooting and turnup of backbone circuits (DS-3 and OC-3c) as orders were delivered by longhaul carrier, as well as in-house facilitation of circuit completion.
Nortel Technology Lab (formerly BNR), August 1996 - March 1997
Consulting Engineer
Evaluated the needs of both new and established carriers entering new markets opened by the 1996 Telecommunications Act and designed networks using the best Nortel equipment. Included the following types of companies:
- IXCs entering the domestic local access market
- Incumbent and independent LECs entering the long distance market
- Competitive Access Providers upgrading to CLEC status
- New domestic and international entrants into the telecom industry.

Data Traffic Planning Engineer (9/95 - 8/96)
- As the first engineer in the group, initiated and continued the development of processes and tools for managing current capacity and forecasting future capacity requirements of the Frame Relay and ATM backbones.
- Forecasted the need for new switches, determined optimal switch placement, and chose switch vendors based upon requirements and cost.
- Collaborated with Information Services analysts to determine the best configuration of the corporate LAN/WAN.
Voice Traffic Planning Engineer (6/94 - 9/95)
Managed and optimized the Chicago and Los Angeles DMS-250 switches, including regular analysis to determine the least-cost circuit path to serve each tandem switch in each LATA.
- Initiated routing changes to ensure least-cost call termination in all LATAs.
- Developed a linear regression trunk group forecasting program for use by all traffic analysts.
- Identified network provisioning inefficiencies using SQL to allow recovery of transmission facilities.
- Planned the integration and/or decommissioning of 38 DEX 400, 600 and 600E switches and 11 DMS-250 switches.
